Dr. Artour Rakhimov’s interview with Lynn Himmelman, NDT Master Trainer about benefits of NDT (New Decision Therapy).

Dr. Artour Rakhimov asks Lynn Himmelman (NDT Master Trainer and Practitioner) how many of us could benefit from New Decision Therapy (a trauma-release technique based on forgiveness). Another way of approaching this question would be to ask, “How many people as a percentage carry emotional baggage and trauma from their past?”

All these clients had issues arising from traumatic past events. Also, many people would either have these stress-related and trauma-related issues but not seek help or turn to other healing approaches or religion for help. Thus, the NDT helps to delete causes of stress, negative emotions, and even PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).

Anger, guilt, and regret can develop and accumulate in most of the population unless it is addressed and resolved in some way. This can also be fostered in an individual earlier and used to deal with traumatic events at virtually any point in one’s life.

There has always been a need for communities and individuals to recognize and reduce the long-lasting effects of trauma. This was one of the major functions of western and eastern religions: to enable people to cope with frustration and hardships in life. In a similar way, the New Decision Therapy could be used by anyone regardless of faith to deal with despair and depression, shame, confusion, feelings of hopelessness and the entire range of negative emotions and states of mental illness. It can hasten and facilitate compassionate understanding, self-actualization, and peace of mind at any point in life. The New Decision Therapy can be used in conjunction with the Buteyko method (physiological breathing retraining) with youngsters as well as in the care of the elderly. Childhood developmental stages and rites of passage in adult life stages do not affect the basic principles of these therapies. For example, even babies can be correctly swaddled to calm them and calm their breathing. Although the New Decision Therapy would require a person who is experienced and trained enough to participate and communicate, it may help children who are recovering from trauma just as art therapy is used with childhood victims of war and victims of other types of abuse.

It is competing with a plethora of other therapies and medical approaches, some of which are less enlightened, e.g., a widespread template use of poly pharmacy to deal with mental problems. Other therapies, such as the work of Byron Katie can have similar benefits in unlocking even long standing trauma.
