Importance of Compassionate Understanding with NDT 1By Dr. Artour Rakhimov, Alternative Health Educator and Author

In this video above, Dr. Artour Rakhimov asks Lynn Himmelman about compassionate understanding in trauma release.

compassion Dr. Artour Rakhimov asks one question that relates to one part of New Decision Therapy. In the process of the New Decision Therapy, the release of the trauma requires cultivating compassionate understanding from the client. We sit down and discuss what would be the life circumstances that created this trauma for us and to find the reasons behind it. He asks Lynn Himmelman to comment on the importance of compassionate understanding.

Forgiving Others with Compassionate Understanding

Yes, how to be compassionate toward’s others is very important for yourself. It is actually the key turning point in the whole New Decision Therapy forgiveness process. Without being compassionate toward’s others, the true release of the trauma is not likely going to take hold in the way that we are looking for. So compassionate understanding towards others actually requires looking much more deeply at who this other person is that created the trauma and often times, most of the time, in fact, the trauma survivor will have enough information to put together that point of compassionate understanding. Even though the information has already been there with them, they have not understood the importance of putting that information next to the person. They may be highly aware of what sort of upbringing that person may have had especially if it was, say, a family member or a cousin or someone who had sexually abused them and just had not put two and two together.

When the pieces of information are there, the trauma clients really get to the crux of it. In New Decision Therapy, the bottom line is always this-if that person behaved in that way it is because they did not know how to do it any other way. In other words, they may have known that what they were doing was wrong but they did not know how to stop themselves from doing what they may have understood to be wrong. In some cases, this is because they were traumatized in the same way and they learned that this is how life works. They may not even be clear on the fact that this is not the way life works when we are in harmony with each other.

Having compassionate understanding towards others is an important part of the healing of our emotions. Healing our emotions improves our physical health. Likewise, slowing down our unconscious breathing patterns improve our emotional landscape. Additionally, many serious diseases such as cancer, diabetes, HIV-AIDS, asthma, bronchitis, and others can be helped with decreasing our automatic breathing patterns.
