exercisingThere is a deep connection between exercise and body oxygenation. However, have you ever wondered which parameters of exercise help in increasing or decreasing the body oxygenation? Another simple question is can exercise improve body oxygenation? The answer to this simple question is that yes, exercise can improve the body’s oxygenation. Now let`s, focus on how this is possible. What are the elements or the parameters which enable it to do so?

As we all know that a stress-free breath holding time reflects the overall health status or condition of the body. Similarly, it is also known that if the breath-holding time is very small, it can be alarming and can be one of the best indicators to warn about health issues. The oxygen content in the body of a person is only determined clearly after exhalation and during the time period, the breath is held. When 200 Russian MDs did their research on the topic and followed the techniques and tests introduced by doctor Buteyko they determined the following things:

  1. Nasal breathing is very important. All kinds of exercises should be done accompanied by nasal breathing. This is so as it helps in the normal usage of the nitric oxide and keeps the carbon dioxide concentrations leveled and controlled in the body.
  2. The intensity of the exercise and breathing should be in line with each other. This means that the intensity of the exercise can only be increased if the person is still breathing using the nasal passage. Otherwise, there will be no benefit of increasing the intensity of the exercise being done.
  3. The duration is another parameter that is of prime importance here. The longer the overall duration of the exercise, the greater or stronger the overall impact of the exercise will be.
  4. The next important thing is the vibrations of the body. Some exercises such as jumping require the natural shaking of the body. This also needs to be accompanied by nasal breathing. Otherwise, there will be no good impact on the exercise being done.
  5. The last parameter which helps in the oxygenation of the body is by the help of exercise is perspiration. As we all know that sweating is a great detoxifier for the gastrointestinal tract, the burden is reduced on the Peyer`s patches which are present in the small intestine with the help of sweating. Therefore, there should be proper sweating during exercises which should not be stopped.

Therefore, it can be said that proper exercise can help in increasing or improving the body oxygenation if all the above things are followed. Apart from this, there is a need to follow the advice which has been given by doctor Buteyko. The advanced are:

  1. Do not breathe through the mouth.
  2. Do not sleep on the back
  3. Do not overeat
  4. Do not overheat
  5. Do not use poor posture
  6. Take care of nutritional deficiencies
  7. Do not expose to toxins, pollutants, and other such things.

I’ve been benefitting from the breath retraining for a while now, and am very grateful. I no longer suffer from asthma, hay fever, anxiety, and can remove a headache within minutes. I’m still not in the routine of daily running, although I am aiming for that.

I also suffer from tinnitus a notice that you don’t investigate that so well. I’d love to know your thoughts! There are so many different kinds of tinnitus. I hoping that when I get the daily running going, it will improve.

Probably, but you will need a lot of such exercises.

Hello Artour! Can I achieve more than 40s CP only with weight lifting? I don’t like running, jogging or similar sports! I prefer strength training! Thanks

Even if you use the Training Mask, you still need over 1 hour of intensive exercise for breaking the MCP 40 threshold.
You can get similar cardio effects from weight lifting too. Your average pulse, perspiration, and body shaking are other key factors that can be used to evaluate the effects of exercise.

Hi Artour,
Sorry I wasn’t quite clear on my question.
In the fitness part of your site you recommend about 2 hours of physical exercise + other) for optimal cp. I think in the gym people usually take 1-3 minutes breaks between the sets which makes it very different from running. So I was wondering if you can count one hour of lifting weights in the gym being superior or inferior to running at getting the cp up in the long term?

It is unclear: “have similar effects” to what?
“because in the gym there are usually longer pauses.” – Pauses are breath holds or breaks between routines of exercise?

Do you think 1 hour of weightlifting in the gym and 1 hour of walking have similar effects on body oxygenation when done correctly with nose breathing? I am wondering because in the gym there are usually longer pauses.
