Obama Approval Rating: How Weird Death, Swine Flue Screw It Up

Obama approval rating started to decline after one weird death during his April 2009 visit to Mexico City (death of one Mexican professor with whom Obama shook hands) and appearance and growth of swine flu pandemic that started just days before this visit. Here is a graph based on results of Gallup polls (up to December 19, 2011).

Since modern people have about two times of oxygen in their brains in comparison with brains of people living about 100 years ago, it is obvious that contemporary people should be influenced by superstitions and myths especially in relation to Obama approval rating. There were couple of strong psychological events that screw up US Presidency.

Obama approval rating and psychology

On April 16 2009, when Obama approval rating was high, President Obama had a visit to Mexico City. Only three days before his visit, the famous 2009 swine flu pandemic, which later killed thousands, started in Mexico. Many media sources simply stated that the outbreak of swine flu "coincided with the President Barack Obama’s trip to Mexico City". Later, this flu pandemic started to spread in the USA. This created an illusion that President Obama brought swine flu to his home country ("what a bastard!") and the rest of the world since the peak of the swine pandemic was during summer 2009 and the virus was under control only by October 2009. This was exactly the period of decline in Obama approval rating. In other words, spread of swine flu matches the decline in popularity of President Obama.

Could somebody arrange this swine flu coincidence? Possibly, especially of we consider the second event that took place during the same trip.

While in Mexico City, President Obama met the director of the National Museum of Anthropology Professor Felipe Olguin and shook his hands. Professor Olguin died days later, on April 23 2009. There were official (wrong) reports that professor Olguin died of 'flu-like symptoms'. Later, it was announced that Professor Olguin died due to heart attack. How could this event influence Obama approval rating?

What were the effects of this death? It is all about human psychology. Would YOU be excited and thrilled to shake hands of US President, especially if you are a supporter? What about shaking hands of a President after the event (death) with Professor Olguin? You can surely guess what should happen with supporters of President Obama and Obama approval rating.

If there were some people who decided to undermine US Presidency, these events (swine flu outbreak and murder of Professor Olguin) would make sense.
