Breathing education
Part 2-D.
Is there "special breathing"
pattern for exceptional or
super health?
- In 1960-1980s Doctor Buteyko trained about 200 Soviet medical professionals
to use the Buteyko breathing method. His main requirement for these
breathing practitioners was 60 s BHT (breath holding time) and all his
medical pupils fulfilled this criterion. Many of them had up to 2-3 min BHT.
In addition, he taught many hundreds of Russian patients to get up to 1-3 minutes BHT.
-
- His finding was that the typical breathing rate
for people with 2-3 min BHT was about 3-5 breaths per minute with minute
volume about 1.5-2.5 l/min with slow relaxed inhalation and long
automatic pause (period of no breathing) of up to 10-16 seconds.
-
- Similar
breathing patterns are observed in hatha yoga masters.
-
"...Death consists
of the passing out of the air.
-
It is, therefore,
necessary to restrain the breath".
