Buteyko and Breathing-Less Promotion 1By Dr. Artour Rakhimov, Alternative Health Educator and Author

There is another page that is about how to donate to and promote NormalBreathing.com.

Part 1. General ideas

Promoting Buteyko method and breathing Many Buteyko practitioners have websites devoted to their teaching of the method.

In addition, some of the practitioners also created web pages about related topics such as asthma, sleep apnea, chronic fatigue, sports, etc, trying to get ranking and visitors from Google and other sources.

In this message, I want to describe the current situation with online promotion, and those methods that can generate more visitors to your site, blog, videos, and Amazon books.

Which web pages and topics to promote

If we go to the Google Keyword tool, we can discover there are only 6,800 people per month who type this word “Buteyko” for the Google search engine.

In contrast, one can attract visitors with remedies that are very successful, useful and be liked by visitors since these remedies do the job. These remedies can stop coughing, unblock the nose, relieve constipation, eliminate cramps, stop an asthma attack and do many other things. In addition, there are numerous medical terms related to breathing.

Here is some statistic related to NormalBreathing pages. The table below shows URLs of web pages (you can guess the topic of any page from its URL); how many impressions were made (how many times people see this URL on the PC screen); and how many people decided to click on it and land on NormalBreathing.com.

Statistic for one month (only some pages, out of more than 300 in total)

Let me remind you that there are 6,800 searches per month for the word “Buteyko” in Google. Even if you get to spot No. 3 for this word, you can expect only several hundred visitors to your page.

Next, the competition for the word “Buteyko” is very tough and it is very difficult to get even on page 1 (top 10 URLs) for this word. However, many of the how-to remedies do not have strong competition (see them above), and one can, with some efforts and right steps, create pages that will be present on page 1 of Google. (It usually takes several weeks to get there.)

If you try to create pages and rank them for “asthma” or “sleep apnea”, it will be very difficult too unless you invest 100’s of USD paying to people who can help with SEO (search engine optimization). You will need to spend 1,000s of USD if you try to compete for “cancer”, “diabetes”, or “yoga” on Google.

Therefore, it is smart, for the promotion of the Buteyko method online for search engines, to go for topics and keywords that have low competition and good traffic volume.

If anyone wants to make new pages, you can use the above topics. I understand that you can actually “steal” some of my visitors. However, I am also certain about the following effect.

Right now, when someone types “how to unblock the nose” or something similar, 90% of remedies will provide something that is nearly useless in comparison with the Buteyko exercise and the whole system as a permanent solution. Therefore, most people have a natural tendency to ignore my page (with the breathing remedy) and use other more popular techniques. If we get 3-5 web pages on the first page of Google and all these 3-5 pages say “Breathe Less”, then more people will try it (and see that it works).

As a result, the total promotional effect will be much stronger.

In addition, I suggest bringing your new pages to Buteyko forums and groups so that others can provide you with their social support (Facebook likes, tweets, Google+ shares, and so on).

Buteyko promotion: videos and books

Similar methods and ideas can be applied to making YouTube videos and Amazon books (both, paperback and Kindle).

Depending on the total traffic, these methods can generate an additional income that can become a passive income later (no promotional efforts in relation to the same page, video or URL later).

As about the niches and topics, you can easily make much more sales and money, if you write a good book on weight loss, diabetes, epilepsy, chronic fatigue, exercise, and many other topics (using breathing methods), rather than books that are, according to their titles, about the Buteyko method or breathing in general.

The same is true about the creation of YouTube videos since the YouTube search volume for “Buteyko” and breathing topics is very low.

Promoting breathing and SEO optimization

Just the creation of pages, videos and books are usually not enough to get 1,000s of visitors monthly. There are many additional specifics related to getting on the top of Google (on page 1, or even on 3 top positions) and staying there. These methods relate to on-page and off-page SEO optimization, and they are not discussed in this post.

Ideas for the successful promotion of YouTube videos are slightly different with some important details.

The same is true for Amazon Kindle e-books and paperback print-on-demand books (with CreateSpace.com).

If you are interested, I can direct you to resources and sources where you can find important SEO-related details that will lead to success in the online promotion of the Buteyko method and breathing-less ideas.

Part 2. Social signals for promoting Buteyko and breathe-less

Starting from 2012, and especially in 2013, Google greatly increased the influence of social sharing and bookmarking sites. What does it mean? You want to see your page, video or book about Buteyko or breathing-less be at the top for certain keywords on Google, YouTube, Amazon, etc. How can you achieve this goal? Making backlinks is one of the methods. However, as it is said above, social sharing became a very powerful tool to achieve a better ranking. How does it work?s

Imagine that you created a web page, or made a video, or published a book. You can share the URL, title, and description of your content with other people on your Facebook fan page, Twitter account (tweets), LinkedIn and Google Plus Page (the most influential one). There are dozens of other social sharing sites, and they can also help with ranking.

Of course, most people prefer to share only or mostly their own content. By sharing your content, you also make your fans to come more often to your Facebook page, Google+, Tweeter page and LinkedIn page. Imagine visitors who come to your page and see that your content is more than one week old. Of course, then they are less likely to visit your page again, whereas if your content is regularly updated and useful, you can get new visitors regularly coming back to your pages.

There one big problem with posting your own content only (most people just do this, and this probably reflects low CPs, when we talk about Buteyko people). The problem is that Google and other search engines can reduce the value of your posts and their effects on your web pages, videos and books because, as they believe, of self-promotion. (One may argue if it is a good idea or not, but it is a reality of life.)

If you own a huge website with dozens of new pages per day, then it could be ok. But for medium and small sites and businesses, having only own content on your social accounts is, as most SEO experts say, not a good idea. You need to have posts or bookmarks that promote the content of other people. To have over 50% of content related to others (not created by you) is likely a smart option for anybody involved in Buteyko promotion and other small and medium businesses.

Which other content can (should) you promote? It is up to you to decide. If you like music or are involved in politics or anything else, you can post info about these topics too.

But my suggestion is that we organize some forum or group devoted to the social promotion of the new (and existing) content related to the Buteyko method and breathing-less ideas. Then every member can share their most recent creations, and we (maybe all of us) can yell “Hurahhh…” creating the viral effect with numerous social signals coming from dozens (hundreds?) of social accounts.

This can be even done semi-automatically or automatically, using social sharing platforms of software programs that can submit your content on autopilot (some of them even monitor RSS feeds of your sites, YouTube accounts, etc. so that to share your content as soon as you publish it, or within hours).

Of course, when creating new content, we should not focus on those niches that do not produce many visitors (like the keyword “Buteyko”) since there are dozens of topics (see the Table and analysis above) that will bring us many more visitors. I am talking about coughing, stuffy nose, constipation, sleep, cramps, panic attacks, and many other terms and topics related to breathing, medical terms, health problems, and symptoms.

We can probably create a database of web pages (URLs with descriptions) which can be promoted using our united efforts. In other words, as soon as you or someone else created something new and relevant to Buteyko and breathing-less, it can be shared with others on new(?) and existing forums. We can also push forward already existing content, but without good on-page SEO, it is nearly impossible to get good ranking.

If you wish to join or get even more involved in this social sharing idea, leave a message below or send me an email. It is possible to automatically create accounts on dozens of other social sharing sites and post there automatically. Here is a list of some social sites with PageRank in brackets:

Part 3. On-page SEO optimization

Without good on-page SEO (search engine optimization), it is impossible to get on page 1 of Google. There are dozens of pages made by Buteyko teachers which are done in the right direction (trying to get ranking for right keywords), but with poor on-page SEO. Here is what matters for on-page SEO optimization.

Selecting the main keyword

You can use the Google Keyword Tool, or simply follow the ideas suggested above. (I can add more URLs if you need).

When you select the main keyword (e.g., “how to stop a cough” or “runny nose”), it is nearly certain that you will get many visitors from similar terms (“stop coughing”, “reduce a cough”, etc. and “running nose”, “runny nose remedy”, etc.). In many cases, additional phrases can bring you several times more traffic than the main keyword.

The main keyword, together with these additional (semantic or similar) keywords, form a cluster of phrases that you MUST use in the following areas of your HTML code.

Where these keywords should go

Either the main (or additional similar) keyword must be present in each of the following:
– Title tag
– Meta keywords & description tag
– Header tags: H1, H2, H3
– Image file names and alt tags or YouTube video on the same topic (embedded).

Presence of a top YouTube video for the same keyword and embedded on your page is the best choice (but just an image or two are ok too).

For example, my “How to fall asleep fast” page (https://www.normalbreathing.com/how-to-fall-asleep-fast) embeds the video ranked for the same phrase “how to fall asleep fast” on YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeWMnTM9VbA with over 170,000 views (Sept 2013). The same is true for the page ranked for “how to get rid of a stuffy nose” (https://www.normalbreathing.com/how-to-get-rid-of-stuffy-nose) and corresponding YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5L5k-pWyaE with over 300,000 views (Sept 2013).

You may embed my videos (they are often on positions 1, 2 or 3 for relevant keywords), or you can also make your own YouTube video (using similar rules for ranking on YouTube), and insert the backlink from this video description (as a plain URL) to your web page. Then you can embed the same video on your web page and also make a return backlink from your web page to your video’s URL.

Note that in case of images, you need to change the name of your image to something like “how-to-stop-cough.jpg”, or “stopcough.png” etc., with “alt” text tag that also includes “stop cough” or other keywords.

Do not use the same keyword too many times on the same page. Try to alternate your keywords within the text of the page. In other words, use diverse keywords (to get traffic for similar and semantic terms).

Add one authority backlink (make it “nofollow”) to the relevant top google URL about “cough” or “nose”. It can be a Wikipedia article or some other source.

You can take any of the URLs from the Table above (from NormalBreathing.com) and right click to see “Page Source”. Then you can investigate where you can find the main and related keywords in the HTML code of my pages. Virtually all the above pages follow the ideas suggested here.

You can do all these changes now for your existing web pages so that they get more traffic.

These are the main things for on-page SEO. Feel free to leave comments below. The final step is to organize an off-page SEO that includes backlinks and bookmarks.
